18.100A: Introduction to Analysis (Spring 2014)
- Instructor: Mark Behrens
- Office: E17-444
- Lectures: TR 11-12:30, in 4-163
- Office hours: W1-2, Th1-2
- Required text: A. Mattuck, Introduction to Analysis. Currently in 8th
printing - see corrections to this and earlier printings here.
- Schedule (includes homework)
Grading: There are problem sets, two exams, and a final. Each counts
for roughly 1/3 of your final grade.
Homework:
Assignments are posted daily to the schedule.
They are due weekly on the following tuesday (or thursday when there is no
class on tuesday). Solutions to the homeworks will be
posted below.
- Hw1
- Hw2
- Hw3
- Hw4
- Hw5
- Hw6
- Hw7
- Hw8
- Hw9
- Hw10 (for the first problem, I accidently wrote up
the solution for 1-f(x), where f(x) is the function in the problem, but
hopefully you get the idea!)
- Hw11
- Hw12
Because (1) I post hw solutions, and (2) it takes more work for the grader,
I don't accept late homeworks without a legitimate excuse (such as illness,
etc)
Midterm 1:
Tues, March 11. Open book, no notes or calculators. Covers Chapters 1-8,
Study materials can be found here.
Midterm 2:
Thurs, April 24. Open book, no notes or calculators. Covers Chapters 9-15
and chapter 17. Download a list of questions in the book I thought would be
helpful for studying here. A copy of an exam
I gave in Spring 2007 is posted here. The
solutions to this exam may be found here
Final exam:
The final exam will be on Wed, May 21, 1:30-4:30, in Johnson Ice Rink.
Open book, no notes or calculators. Covers Chapters 1-22
(Except chapter 16).
Find an old practice exam here (I crossed out questions that used material we
didn't cover). And a list of what I thought were the most important concepts
of the semester. Download the 2007 final here,
and check the solutions here.
