Course Description

Geographers in Ireland have begun to examine the ways in which communities and states identify themselves to the world. Song, story and public monuments are key elements by which Irish people today present themselves to the world but this is nothing new. This course focuses on the way in which four key aspects of the personality of Ireland have been portrayed through images, literature and film over time. The changing understanding and nature of community; agriculture; settlement and population; and religion in Ireland are examined.
