Course Description

This unit provides an introduction to understanding the principles of inheritance and the analysis of genetic variation in all organisms. The unit provides theoretical coverage of each of the main sub-disciplines of genetics in lectures and tutorials, followed by laboratory classes in which students gain hands-on training and experience in the experimental approaches used for research in these areas. Emphasis is given to understanding genetics terminology, approaches to successful problem-solving, and practice of key generic skills. Careers and current research in genetics are highlighted.
