Course Description

PHIL 30230 Anarchy, Law, and State at UCD; This module will consider a central topic in political philosophy - the nature, function and justification of the State - from a libertarian perspective. A considerable amount of reading material will be made available to students via Blackboard and this material will contextualise the discussions. Students will acquire or deepen their knowledge of the history of the State, the growth of the Western tradition of Law, and become acquainted with some key issues in Political Philosophy. Through all this, students will develop their analytical skills and come to a critical and reflective position on the subject.
