LocationLondon, United Kingdom
DisciplineAME
ND Course Number54631
ND Course TitleMolecular Thermodynamics
Host University Number54631
Host University TitleMolecular Thermodynamics
Course Description

The course is for students who are interested in the molecular underpinnings of continuum thermodynamics. Such understanding is essential in understanding properties of classical materials and in the design of new materials used in a variety of energy applications.

The course will cover the following topics: the first law, heat capacity, enthalpy and thermo chemistry, the second and third laws, the free energy, phase transitions, chemical equilibrium, the statistical definition of entropy, connecting microscopic and macroscopic properties, the partition function, ideal gases, perfect crystals, and statistical mechanics and equilibrium.
