For this week, you are to consider the following questions as we explore issues related to diversity and codes of conduct:
What does diversity mean (or should mean) in the context of computing and technology?
What does tolerance mean (or should mean) in the context of computing and technology?
From your experience, in what ways has the computing or technology community been welcoming or inclusive? In what ways has been isolating and exclusionary?
How do we address issues of inequality or lack of representation in a manner that is recognizes the value and dignity of each individual?
Should we be expected to practice self-censorship? Can you bring your whole self to work?
Note, you should not simply list the questions and answer each one directly. Instead, the questions are there to help you brainstorm about the question:
How should the computing and technology community work towards creating a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive community? Is this a moral imperative or a laudable goal or unlikely wish?
Your writing reflection should ultimately answer this question.
