- REU  Issues:
Get involved in research, either here or apply for an REU at http://www.nsf.gov/home/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.cfm
Look for one that provides food and housing as well as ~$3000-4000 for 8-12 wks
Beware!  Pay attention to the dates, some programs extend past 8/20 when ND starts
Note:  some may also offer lecture series, tours, GRE prep, or opportunities to attend conferences,  often you will be expected to make a 10-15min oral presentation at the end of the summer.
Also note:  it's great experience applying, even though programs tend to want juniors.  Note, nearly half of the sophomores last year got into one or more programs.
These programs are a great way to explore another university (which you may decide to return to for graduate studies), explore another part of the country, or stay near home and have a great time, making good money.
Also, our guest grad student last night, Sarah, suggests it looks really good on your grad aps.
