Homework Set 1 Solutions

First of all, I have some comments about the homeworks in general. I was pretty harsh on grading the style of the homework this time. From now on, make sure that you clearly state the problem. Don't just include numbers--describe in words what the problem says. Make sure you clearly list all all your assumptions and explain why you did what you did. Also, with any graphs you turn in, make sure that you give your graph a title and clearly label your axes.

One big thing that very few people were consistent on was significant digits. Prof. Dunn would have had a heart attack. It doesn't matter how many digits you carry through your calculations; just make sure that your answer (your BOXED answer) has the proper number of significant figures.
