Comments:  This is a modern reproduction of an NE shilling made by the Boston Mint of Cambridge, Massachusetts. This lead based reproduction is slightly larger and heavier than the silver originals (originals weight about 72 grains or 4.66 grams and measure within 25-28mm). The pronounced planchet striations seen on this copy are not found on the originals. The obverse of the reproduction has a similar style of lettering to the original but with slightly thicker lines. There are 16 surviving NE shillings made with three different sets of punches. This reproduction appears to be closer to Noe's punch 3 (he called it die 3), illustrated as Noe 10. The cutting (or turning) mark seen on the left half of the obverse does not appear on any original. The reverse has thicker numerals and lacks the serifs found on the original. Clearly, the word 'COPY" on this reproduction is not found on the originals.

Comments:  This is a modern reproduction of an NE threepence. Only one original threepence survives, now in the collection of the Massachusetts Historical Society. This reproduction is about the same size as the original. The obverse of the reproduction has a similar style of lettering to the original but with thinner lines and a deeper impression around the letters. Actually it looks closer to the style of the NE sixpence listed as number 4 in Noe. The reverse has taller numerals with less pronounced serifs than the original. Also, on the original the numerals are placed closer to the top and slightly more centered than in the reproduction, but they are still left of center. The original is holed, with the entry from the reverse side at about the same spot this reproduction has the s mark. There is no such mark on the original. The holed original weighs 17.3 grains (1.12 grams).
