Deaths by external causes

1. Most of the deaths in the data that were caused by external causes were unspecified. However, out of the specified causes, intentional self harm was the leading cause, at 21.5% of the overall data. Both transportation accidents and falls were major causes as well, at around 11% each. But even so, without full knowledge about the unspecified deaths, coming to a conclusion is difficult.

2. Males and females did not have a significant difference in deaths by unspecified accidents. However, it appears that intentional harm and transportation accidents affected men significantly more than women.

3. In addition, even though assaults only made up a small percentage of overall death causes, when we break it down by percentages, 63% of assault-related deaths belonged to males, much more than women.

4. In 2007, the number of deaths by assault went down. But overall there was no trend in the number of deaths by assault.
