Precalculus Resources
You will use many results from previous courses in algebra and precalculus throughout Math 10550. It is often the case that students (and professors) start to see old material in a new way when they use it in a new context. They may also find that they have forgotten some of the results and need to refresh their memory. When this happens it is impotant to review the old results and contemplate them in this new light in order to reach a deeper understanding of the material. We have included a review of precalculus and algebra in our syllabus.
- Notes and videos for our in-class review can be found under Current Lectures on the class website.
- We have also posted some older lecture notes and videos on the specific algebra and precalculus material necessary for this course on our website under Algebra/precalculus Review for Math10550.
- In many of the regular online homework sets, there are some precalculus review questions at the beginning. These homeworks do count for credit. Ideally you should work through these questions prior to the relevant class so that trying to recall precalculus during the lecture does not become an unnecesaary distraction taking your attention away from the new concepts in calculus. You can distinguish the questions from the precalculus book from those from your regular book by looking at the name of the question in the upper right hand corner. Those from the precalculus book have labels starting with SPreCalc and those from your regular calculus book start with SCalc as in the examples shown below:
