About Iron Sharpens Iron

Iron Sharpens Iron, or ISI, is a student-led Christian fellowship at the University of Notre Dame affiliated with Campus Ministry. The club is an interdenominational community of students with members from a variety of Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox backgrounds. Reflecting these differences, ISI is named after Proverbs 27:17, which says:

Iron sharpens iron,
and one man sharpens another. (ESV)

The differences in our community serve as catalysts for sharpening. Fellowship in light of disagreement causes us, together and as individuals, to narrow our focus on the one thing which is most basic and central to the Christian faith: Jesus Christ and the story of His perfect life, death, resurrection, and subsequent grace. This narrative is the central gathering point for the ISI community, just as it is for the rest of the created world.

ISI exists to deepen students' faiths in regard to living out this Gospel and to witnessing to this message on campus. In order to do so, ISI holds weekly meetings Thursday nights, featuring corporate worship with music, a student talk, and prayer groups. Outside of Thursday nights, ISI also holds prayer services, does service projects in the South Bend community, and has social events including ultimate Frisbee and game nights. In addition, each semester, ISI hosts a weekend retreat off campus for spiritual renewal and community building.

What's the best way to get involved? Take a look at the groups to the right and go on a retreat. ISI is a big community. Make connections with strangers. Be open about yourself. We're living for Christ together and we're all messy until He makes us clean.
