179. Conclusions. -- Two main conclusions emerge from an historical study of the Universals problem (1) Neither nominalism nor conceptualism, as these systems were understood later, existed prior to the thirteenth century.

(2) All the anti-realist systems prior to the thirteenth century are more or less imperfect expressions of moderate realism; they are all phases in the organic evolution of one and the same underlying idea.
