Research Summary

I focus on the impact of physical layer on the routing in mobile ad hoc network. Since in mobile scenario, the important role of characteristics of physical layer (e.g., fading) has frequently been neglected by adopting "disk model" or protocol model, we based our analysis of routing in mobile ad hoc network on the Rayleigh fading model. By this way, we found that some previous conclusions or results no longer hold. In view of this, we develop some new metrics to evaluate the performance of routing in mobile scenario. We study the efficiency and validity of these metrics and apply them to different routing strategies to analyze the performance of different route. Furthermore, based on this more realistic model, we found that to save energy, we have to use different approach (e.g, power control, retransmission,...)for route maintenance in different situation. We will study the performance of routing strategies in multi-user interference environment and the throughput of routing in mobile scenario. By fully concerning the characrestics of physical layer, propose some routing strategies and protocols which are more suitable and efficient for mobile ad hoc networks.
