ABOUT PEACE ACCORD MATRIX

Since the end of the Cold War, hundreds of peace agreements have been signed by combatants engaged in conflicts around the world. Violent confrontation continued or reemerged after signing of some peace accords. Many peace accords have resulted in lasting and quality peace. What makes the difference? And how can we improve the chances that a peace process will succeed?

Peace Accords Matrix is the world’s largest source of comparative data on peace agreements. This dataset includes 51 key provisions negotiated in comprehensive peace agreement since 1989 as well as post accord implementation status of those provisions for up to ten years. Information available through the Peace Accord Matrix have proven useful to address some of the persistence questions in success and failure of the peace process and post-accord developments.
