Obverse:  FLOREAT   REX .
Reverse:  QVIESCAT PLEBS

Weight:  78.6 g   (5.09 grams)                  Diameter:  25.3 mm

Comments:   On the obverse the bottom of the figure on the harp bows between the L and the O in FLOREAT. The head of the harp is aligned with the E. On David's crown the first spike points to before the R and the others point at the R in REX. On the reverse the snake is slightly under the Q. Patrick's staff points towards the vertical stroke on the E in PLEBS. On the church steeple the horizontal bar of the cross points at the lower side of the S. There is a planchet void on the reverse rim at 4:00 o'clock.

Provenance:  From the Robert H. Gore, Jr. Numismatic Collection. This is one a group of St Patrick copper Mr. Gore obtained from William Anton, Jr., President of Woodcliff Investment Corporation on August 9, 1967. According to Anton's letter the coins were duplicates from the F.C.C. Boyd collection.

Obverse:  FLOREAT   REX .
Reverse:  QVIESCAT PLEBS :

Weight:  83.4 g   (5.40 grams)                  Diameter:  24.7 mm

Comments:   On the obverse the bottom of the figure on the harp bows at the O in FLOREAT. The head of the harp is aligned with the E. The dot after REX is large and far from the letter. On the reverse the snake head is under the letter Q. Patrick's staff points towards the serif at the end of the horizontal stroke on the E in PLEBS. The punctuation at the end of the legend is faint. On the church steeple the horizontal bar of the cross appears to point to the lower side of the S. Both sides are well worn. This example has incuse counterstamps on the obverse with T S above and B S below, on the reverse is the incuse counterstamp (struck upside down) HT. These counterstamps do not apear in Rulau, Standard Catalog of United Sates Tokens. He does list a BS in relief on p. 63 without illustration and an H.T. in relief (quite different from the present example) on p. 287. In the unlikely event the obverse stamps might be read vertically I discovered an incuse TB on p. 274 (the TB on p. 681 is even less likely) and no SS counterstamps. I suspect the counterstamps on this example are not from America.

Comments:  On the obverse the bottom of the figure on the harp bows out at the O in FLOREAT. The head of the harp is aligned with the E. On David's crown the first two spikes point to before the R and the other two spikes point at the R in REX. On the reverse the snake is to the right of the Q. Patrick's staff points at the horizontal stroke on the E in PLEBS. On the church steeple the horizontal bar of the cross is worn but appears to point to the lower side of the S.

Comments:  On the obverse part of the legend cannot be read. The head of the harp is at the O in FLOREAT. On David's crown the first spike points to the R, the second points to the space between the R and E and the final two spike point towards the E in REX. The punctuation after REX is three periods in the form of a triangle. On the reverse Patrick's staff points towards the serif at the end of the horizontal stroke on the E in PLEBS. On the church steeple the horizontal bar of the cross points to the well worn S in PLEBS.
