2014-2015 Shades of Ebony Events

Each year, Shades of Ebony hosts a variety of events both on Notre Dame's campus and in the greater South Bend community. In order to have successful events, we need members who are willing to not only lend their support with their attendance but to also offer their hand when it comes to planning. There is always an opportunity to help execute events throughout the school year. Members are very much encouraged to sign up for a committee specific to an event so everyone has the chance to get involved.

Below is a brief description of some of the events that your officers and committee members have planned for the 2014-2015 academic year!

As always, if you have ideas about events that you would like Shades to get involved with in the future, you are more than welcome to drop a comment in the suggestion box present at all meetings or to fill out our Feedback form by clicking here!

ACTIVITIES NIGHT
September 3rd, 2014

Activites Night is a huge event on Notre Dame's campus at the beginning of each academic year where students get to see what different organizations have to offer. It is also the first time that new students really get to see what Shades is all about. This is a great opportunity for any interested members to be introduced to the Shades of Ebony officers and to learn more about who we are. Those who like what they see are encouraged to become a part of our sisterhood.

GIRLS NIGHT IN
September 12th, 2014

Girls Night In is such a special event for Shades because it gives the new members an opportunity to get to know returning members right off the bat. This year's Girls Night In will fall right after Activities Night to do just that. The girls will kick back in the Cavanaugh Hall basement with facial and manicure stations, aerobics, music, and free food.

ND BLACK ALUMNI NETWORKING DINNER
October 11th, 2014

Each year, Shades of Ebony partners with other student organizations to host a Black Alumni Networking Dinner following a home football game. This year, the event will take place in Jordan Hall after the North Carolina football game. This is a wonderful opportunity for members of the ND student body to connect with alumni and will feature a catered dinner and great conversation!

THANKSGIVING DINNER WITH WABRUDA
Date TBD

Before students start returning home for Thanksgiving Break every year, we celebrate the holiday by giving thanks and breaking bread with our brothers, the fine young men of Wabruda. Our clubs come together for a great time filled with good conversation and even better food. Stay tuned for more details!

BEAUTIFUL
Date TBD

Every year, we invite girls from high schools in the South Bend community to campus for an amazing event, called Beautiful. The girls get a tour of campus, dinner provided by Shades, and then spend the rest of the evening discussing pertinent issues in small groups and receiving talks from guest speakers. Stay tuned for more details!

WOMEN'S WEEK
March 22nd-27th, 2015

Women's Week is an annual week of events put on by Shades of Ebony that started in the Spring of 2013 as a celebration of 40 years of women at Notre Dame. Stay tuned for more details about this year's Women's Week events!

SKATE PARTY
Date TBD

Held near the end of Spring Semester, our Skate Party is a very popular way to wind down the closing school year. Everyone is invited to dance and, of course, skate the night away to contemporary and old school jams. It is a big hit and such a good time. Stay tuned for more details!

SERVICE EVENTS

Last, but definitely not least, there is service. Service is very near to Shades. We are all blessed to have the opportunity that we do and it is important to take advantage of it by giving back to the community. In years past, Shades has been involved in service activities such as volunteering at a local nursing home during the holiday season, mentoring young girls from Washington High School, spreading the word about women's health issues through our October Breast Cancer Awareness Postcards, and working in junction with other clubs to raise money for Upward Bound. This year, we look to work closely with St. Margaret's House as well as with local schools and community centers. This year, we will also be launching our Washington High School Mentor Program, in which Shades members will be matched with high school girls from Washington High School in the South Bend community for mentorship, sisterhood, and just general fun!
