Math 20550 Calculus III (Spring 2016)
Multivariable Calculus

Book for Math 20550, Spring 2016

We will be using Stewart Multi-Variable Calculus 7E (Hybrid Edition with access to online homework) and we will be using the online homework homework system Enhanced Webassign (EWA) provided by the book publisher for the 7th. (The hybrid edition of the book offered by the bookstore includes all material covered in Calculus I, II and III at Notre Dame. It does not include the homework problems which are available in the e-book. Multi-semester access to the e-book comes with the hybrid edition.)

Important: Don't buy a newer 8th edition of the book. We are going to use the 7th edition

Buying a hard copy of the book for this course is optional. You may prefer to use just an e-book, or an e-book and a used (old or edition of the book). It is advisable to register for online homework (see below) to preview the e-book and attached media files before you make your decision on what to purchase.

To register for the online homework system Enhanced WebAssign (EWA), follow the instructions given in Homework/Registration Information. You will get the class key from your instructor. You can register any time after Tuesday January 12. You will have a grace period of about 2 weeks to work on your homework and view the e-book. You will need to purchase an Enhanced WebAssign access code within that period in order to continue taking homework and have your work saved.

Option for Purcahsing a Book/Access Code

  1. At the bookstore you can buy a paperback (Hybrid) book and access to online homework and e-book (e-version of the paperback book) for $203.75. ( Calculus: Hybrid Ed (w/Access Code) ISBN: 9781133112716 )
  2. At the bookstore you can just buy access the online homework and e-book apparently for $123.50. ( Enhanced WebAssign ISBN: 9781285858487 )
  3. You may also purcahse an access code online through webassign after you register for online homework with any major credit card. You may register after January 12 and you have roughly two weeks to purchase and enter an access code before your account (and whatever homework you have completed to date) is erased.
  4. If you have had Calc I or II at ND then you have access to the needed online homework problems on EWA. When you sign up with WebAssign be sure to use the same username as you used in the past. This will also provide you with access to the e-book. If you want paper version of the book follow the suggestion below.
If you want to have a hardback book, you can get a used 6th edition of Stewart Multivariable Calculus. The difference in content between the 7th and 6th edition is minimal. They can be found for about $20 on the web.
