What are the obstacles in defining public morality?

  Religion.  Parents.  Values.  Media.  Image.  Standards.   All of these factors can influence the way one defines his or her morality, but how do we as individuals begin to define a public standard of morality?  More importantly, should we define a public standard of morality?  The tension between our individuality and rights compared to our duty to maintain moral social standards comes sharply into focus when discussing the controversy between our First Amendment rights and combating obscenity in the public sphere.
