HISTORY OF THE INTERNATIONAL DANTE SEMINAR /
STORIA DEL SEMINARIO INTERNAZIONALE DANTESCO

Founded in the summer of 1991 by Zygmunt Baranski, Robert Hollander, Amilcare Iannucci, and Lino Pertile, the International Dante Seminar held its first meeting at the Chauncey Conference Center in Princeton, NJ in October, 1994. One of the distinguishing characteristics of the Seminar is that papers are not read aloud, but are pre-circulated to all participants, including some two dozen invited discussants. Those invited to participate as the authors of papers have 15-20 minutes to present the central concerns of their texts, thus leaving free two hours in each of the four sessions for open discussion.

While the discussions are limited to invited speakers and the discussants, the general public is invited to attend the sessions. The sessions will be recorded and later published.
