The College of Engineering, like the University, stresses service,
giving back to the community. Almost 80 percent of Notre Dame’s
undergraduates participate in community service activities during their
time on campus. Engineering students often gravitate toward projects
that offer them a chance to use their unique skills, such as working
with the Notre Dame chapter of Habitat for Humanity to build homes
for local families in need. David J. Kirkner, associate professor of
civil engineering and geological sciences, serves as faculty adviser.
