Honors.
I received a 2014 IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award "for pioneering contributions to the science and engineering of biometrics". 2014 IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award Presentation Video.

I was elected a Fellow of the IEEE "for contributions to algorithms for recognizing objects in images". By the bylaws of the IEEE, the number of persons selected as Fellows in a given year cannot exceed one tenth of one percent of the total IEEE voting membership (list of IEEE Fellows). ( Mentoring Note on Nomination for IEEE Fellow.)

I was also named a Golden Core Member of the IEEE Computer Society (list of Golden Core members).

I was elected a Fellow of the IAPR "for contributions to computer vision, pattern recognition and biometrics". By IAPR rules, the number of Fellows elected every two years cannot exceed one quarter of one percent of the total IAPR membership (list of IAPR Fellows).

Conferences.
I recently served as "local" host for the` Worskhop on Face Recognition At Its Best, held in London. I am serving as General Chair of the 2019 IEEE Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision I have served as General Chair and Program Chair for many conferences and workshops. I was one of the founding General Chairs of the IEEE International Conference on Biometrics Theory, Applications and Systems (BTAS) conference series, serving as General Chair in 2007 (conference report), 2008 (conference report) and 2009 (conference report), and served as General Chair in 2011 when an every-third-year merger with the International Conference on Biometrics created the International Joint Conference on Biometrics.

Journals.
I served as the EIC of the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, the premier journal for its areas of coverage, with a consistent history of excellence and consistently high impact factor ranking. (PAMI editorial about multiple submissions) I was the inaugural EIC of the IEEE Biometrics Compendium, the IEEE's first "virtual journal".
