Travel Plans: Before buying tickets or making other commitments, be sure they do not conflict with any exams. Exam dates can be found under the “EXAMS” button. Exam dates are set by the Registrar and cannot be adjusted by the instructors.

Textbook: Before investing in a book or other material for this course, please consult the “READ BEFORE BUYING A BOOK”.

Grading: Letter grades will be assigned based on your total score on the three hour exams, the final, the homework and your tutorial performance. Letter grades will be assigned based on the percentages below. These percentages may change if some exams are curved.

Note that failure to do homework and attend tutorial can lower your final grade by as much as a full letter grade.

Notre Dame's midterm grades are due October 17. At that point we will have had only one exam. Hence your grade on the first exam is your Notre Dame midterm grade! This grade will be reported in inside.nd.edu and will be mailed to your permanent address over Fall Break. We will have another exam on the Thursday after Fall Break and your midterm grade will be updated. The drop date (October 28) is after this second exam. It is best to use all available midterm grades when deciding to continue or drop this class.

Warning: With a few exceptions listed below, you need to complete homework and exams on time. There are no "do-overs" or extra credit.

Missed exams: Note that there will be three Midterm Exams and a Final Exam. Students who miss an examination will receive zero points for that exam unless they have written permission from their Dean. Please be aware that travel plans, sleeping in, defective alarm clocks, etc. are not considered to be a valid excuse by the Dean! If you have a valid excuse (illness, excused athletic absence, etc.) for missing an exam, please contact your instructor ASAP (preferably before the exam) and a makeup exam will be scheduled.

Final Exam conflicts: Students with more than two final exams in one day, or more than three finals in a 24 hour period, may request to change the time of one of these finals. If you intend to request a different time or day for your Math 20550 final, you must make arrangements with your instructor before November 1. The schedule for all final exams is here.

Hour Exam conflicts: If you have a conflict with another exam scheduled by the Registrar there is a formula to resolve it. Please email your instructor at least one week before the exam to give us time to determine when and where you should take the 20550 exam. The schedule for all departmental exams is here.

Missed homework: Since homework may be done anywhere there is internet access, nothing short of serious unforeseen events (supported by documentation) will excuse missed homework.

Extra Credit: During the course of the semester extra credit points can be earned. You can get two points each time you attend a talk (not a panel discussion) in the Math for Everyone Series. To earn these two points of extra credit you must attend the talk and afterward email a few sentence summary of the talk to your TA. If you cannot attend a particular talk, inform your TA before or immediately afterward to set up an alternate way to get these points.

Honor Code: Notre Dame students are expected to abide by Academic Code of Honor Pledge: “As a member of the Notre Dame community, I will not participate in or tolerate academic dishonesty.” Examinations and homework are conducted under the Honor Code; in particular, exams are closed book and are to be done completely by yourself with no help from others. You are free to discuss homework problems with your classmates, tutors, and instructors, but you must submit your answers to WebAssign without any help. To claim to have attended a "Math for Everyone" talk when you have not is an honor code violation.

Students with disabilities: Notre Dame provides various accommodations for students who qualify. More information can be found by following the link. Note that accommodations for exam or homework issues must be made BEFORE the exam is scheduled or the homework is due.
