    MATHSCINET SEARCH RESULTS
Wendy Bucci of American Mathematical Society (AMS) indicates that manipulation and printing of MathSciNet search results relies on the functionality of the browser used. Printing and downloading are most often accomplished using the ÒFile Save AsÓ and ÒMail DocumentÓ options of the browser. Number of records per page is determined on the MathSciNet search screen at the time the search is formulated. Headlines can be printed in their entirety, while individual records must be printed one at a time. AMS hopes to provide a ÒMark RecordÓ option in a future release of MathSciNet.

Carol Hutchins suggests using X-terminals and having users ÒanonymouslyÓ e-mail records to themselves. Jane Holmquist points out that on some browsers, one of the ÒdropdownÓ options is to Save File as Type: Plain Text (*.txt). Gary Davidoff has a copy of a HTML stripper for Word for Windows from Database magazine. It removes HTML code; contact him if interested.

    PAM LIAISON TO INSPEC
Molly White will serve as PAM Division liaison to INSPEC. This is a three year appointment.

    MATHSCINET PRICING
PAMnetters from smaller institutions indicate that they find the current pricing policy for MathSciNet prohibitive. Pricing by size of institution or by consortia for smaller institutions was suggested. It was also pointed out that AMS does have an Appeals Committee on Discounted Subscriptions.

Subscribers from larger institutions support some type of lower price for smaller libraries if it could be done without resulting in price increases for the current subscribers. Such a pricing system would need to increase the revenue flow a bit more than the increased costs associated with the new subscribers. Some felt that MathSciNet on the Web should eventually replace MathSci Disc.

    SMALL ASTRONOMY LIBRARY
Kevin Krisciumas suggested a list of ÒessentialÓ publications for a small astronomy library in response to a request. Please contact him directly if you would like a copy of his suggestions.

    ECHOING PAMNET MAIL
If you want to always see a copy of messages you send to PAMnet, send the message SET SLAPAM-L REPRO to LISTSERV @YALEVM.CIS.YALE.EDU (NOT TO THE REGULAR ADDRESS).

    BOOKS LOST BY FACULTY
Sara Tompson reported on her PAMnet survey regarding policy regarding charging faculty for lost books. A portion of her summary follows: 17 of the 21 institutions responding charge for lost books, 7 include processing fees on top of replacement costs, replacement costs are exact price or a subject average.

    PERGAMON JOURNALS
Solid State Communications (SSC) and The Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids (JPCS) are related journals but there is no duplication in content. SSC was originally founded as a supplement to JPCS for rapid publication of short papers.

    CONFERENCE INFORMATION ON WEB
Dana Roth reports that he has had considerable success using Alta Vista on the Web to find conference information.

    ARL-EJOURNAL LIST
ARL-EJOURNAL is a discussion list concerned with all aspects of the management of electronic journals by libraries. To join this list send the message SUBSCRIBE ARL-E-JOURNAL to LISTPROC@CNI.ORG

    IRAM NEWSLETTER
The IRAM Newsletter is available on the WEB via the IRAM Home Page. It is also available by FTP at iram.fr or by electronic mail. To subscribe to the mailing list send a message SUBSCRIBE NEWSSERV to the following e-mail address: newsserv@iram.grenet.fr

    ELECTRONIC JOURNAL PRICING
Pros and cons of consortia pricing for electronic journals will vary depending on the publishersÕ plan and how it affects each library. One consortia plan provided access to more journals for a smaller library. The same plan may not work for a large library already receiving all the print journals and not able to afford the 15% increase to get both print and electronic. This can also be a problem for a very small library that is not able to join a consortium.

    LICENSING LIST
LIBLICENSE-L, an Internet discussion list on electronic content licensing for academic & research libraries, is now available. To join the list send the message: subscribe LIBLICENSE-L to listproc@pantheon.yale.edu
