Groundwater
Groundwater
Groundwater is water located beneath the ground surface in soil pore spaces and in the fractures of subteranean formations. The porous substrate that transmits groundwtaer is called an aquifer Groundwater provides an invaluable source of water and is also often withdrawn for agricultural, municipal and industrial use by constructing and operating extraction wells.
In order to protect this resource it is neccesary to understand and study all associated processes and in particular learn how to protect it from threats and use it in a sustainable manner. In our research we have focused on the transport of contaminants in aquifers, ranging from a sea polluting contaminant transported through a coastal aquifers, to the transport of cations to assesing risk in groundwater systems
