    SEATTLE PAM DINNER
    June 7, 1997, 6:30 PM
    Nikko's, Westin Hotel
    1900 5th Ave. at Westlake
    206-322-4641

Our annual Saturday dinner will be at one of Seattle's premier Japanese restaurants. Nikko's, conveniently located downtown in the Westin Hotel, specializes in sushi of all types, but also offers an amazing array of Japanese dinners for every taste. For more info, see Nikko's web site at: http://useattle.uspan.com/nikko/.

We have tentatively reserved a tatami room for 30 where diners are seated on cushions on the floor around a well for our feet. Traditional seating is available as well, but would probably be separate.

Nikko's takes all major credit cards, and will (grudgingly) do separate checks. They will do individual orders from the full menu, but prefer not to for so large a group -- mainly because they've found it a problem to get everyone their entrees still *warm* by the time the last person is served. They will be giving us a suggested family-style menu (at $25 per person) with a selection of appetizers/sushi and then a selection of entrees (veggies, fish, & chicken). Contact Pam Yorks for more information.

An exact head count is needed as well as your seating preference so please RSVP to Martha Tucker (206-543-7296) by June 1, 1997.

PAM OPEN HOUSE AT UW PHYSICS/ASTRONOMY LIBRARY
    SUNDAY, JUNE 8
    7PM-10PM
    C620 Sixth Floor
    Physics/Astronomy Building Tower
(corner of 15th Ave. NE and NE Pacific St.)
    University of Washington
    206-543-2988
    phylib@u.washington.edu

Pacific Northwest wines, beers, waters, and foods will be featured at the Sunday night open house. Allow yourselves a half hour to get there from downtown by bus and come enjoy the evening views from the most scenic library on campus.

University District buses numbered either #71, #72, or #73 leave every 15 minutes on Sundays from downtown along the east side of 3rd Ave. at 3rd and Seneca, 3rd & Union, 3rd & Pine, 4th & Olive (north side of the Bon), and 6th & Olive (Medical/Dental Bldg.). The last stop (2 blocks north of the Convention Center) is between 8th & 9th on Howell. Alternatively, buses numbered either #7 or #43 take longer scenic routes from downtown to campus.

Bus fare is $.85 each way. All day passes are available on Saturdays and Sundays for $1.70 from any bus driver. These are recommended if you'll be getting on and off several times. For more schedule and route information, see the Metro web site at: http://transit.metrokc.gov/bus/neighborhoods/university_district.htm.

If going directly to the Open House, get off the bus on NE Campus Parkway at University Way NE. Walk east one block toward the university and turn south (right) down 15 Ave. NE one block. Turn left into campus entrance. Follow Stevens Way to right about a block. Physics Astronomy Building (2 new, low, brick buildings and 1 tower) will be on your right. Enter tower building and take elevator to 6th floor. If we are lucky, it will be a beautiful clear night with views in all directions. Maps (Gif (81K) or Jpeg (72K)) with bus routes & stops and campus directions will be available at the conference on Sunday at PAM meetings.

Dinner plans on the way might include one of the many large and small restaurants along the east side of Lake Union on Eastlake, or at one of the many small, inexpensive, mostly ethnic restaurants, further north on University Way NE, which is also known to locals as "The Ave."

An exact head count would be helpful so please RSVP to Martha Tucker (206-543-7296) by June 1, 1997.

    Open House Volunteers
Volunteers are still needed to help with the open houses on both Sunday and Monday. Please contact Martha Tucker (206-543-7296) if you can help with setup, bartending, or clean up. We're looking forward to seeing you in June!

    Correction
In the February 1997 "Message from the Chair" it was stated that the reception at the Pacific Science Center would be on Wednesday. The reception will be on Tuesday.
