Engineering Advisory Council Member to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

William D. Mensch Jr., a member of the College of Engineering’s Advisory Council, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from his alma mater, the University of Arizona’s College of Engineering in December 2005. Mensch, who is the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of The Western Design Center in Mesa, Az., designed the 6502 microprocessor, which was recognized at COMDEX ’96 as one of seven microprocessors having the most impact on information technologies to date.

A senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., Mensch holds 22 patents for microprocessors, microprocessor peripheral devices, and microprocessor systems. He is widely recognized as a pioneer in the microprocessor industry and has received many honors throughout his career, including his induction into the Computer Museum of America Hall of Fame.
