College of Engineering Hosts 25th Industry
Day Featuring 70 Companies
On September 13, 2005, the Notre Dame College of
Engineering held the annual Engineering Industry Day in the Joyce Center.
Co-sponsored by the Joint Engineering Council, the Society of Women Engineers,
and the Career Center, Industry Day is held every fall to allow corporate
representatives to recruit students for full-time employment or internships.
The event has grown from hosting less than 20 companies in its first year
of existence to hosting more than 70 companies only 25 years later. Approximately
440 students attended this year’s event to explore the options open
to them as engineers.
Ray Schmitt, the president of the Joint Engineering Council,
and Lauren Barbir, the president of the Notre Dame section
of the Society of Women Engineers co-chaired the organization of the event.
The University’s Career Center also contributed to the success of the
event, offering resume-building workshops, interview tips, and general industry
fair preparation for students.
The Joint Engineering Council is the umbrella organization
for the engineering professional and honor societies at Notre Dame. The
Society of Women Engineers is a national organization that offers support
and guidance to women engineers and engineering students.
