Fuja Named EE Department Chair

Professor Thomas E. Fuja began his tenure as chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering on July 1. Fuja joined the University in 1998. Prior to that he had served on the faculty of the University of Maryland for 11 years. His research focuses on digital communications, error control coding, joint source-channel coding, and information theory. He follows Yih-Fang Huang (M.S., EE ’80) who served as department chair for eight years.

Huang joined the University in 1982. He is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and winner of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society’s Golden Jubilee Medal. His interests are in the area of statistical communications and signal processing, specifically detection and estimation.
