Roeder and Niebur Receive Recognition for Research in Bone Quality

Ryan K. Roeder and Glen L. Niebur, assistant professors in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, have received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to continue their development of new methods for studying microdamage in bone. Roeder and Niebur, along with graduate students Huije Leng and Xiang Wang and undergraduates
Jules VanDersari
, Dan Masse, Mike Annen, Andrew Henebry, Stephanie Rohrs, and Zach Working are using X-ray techniques to detect the microdamage. They are also studying the role of accumulated damage in bones under loading scenarios. Most recently, the group was asked to present their findings at the NIH conference on bone quality during the 14th Annual European Society of Biomechanics Conference in the Netherlands.  For more information on this and other research in biomaterials and biomechanics, visit
