Students and Faculty Participate in Relay for Life

Engineering students, faculty, and staff participated in the second Relay for Life: Fighting Irish Fighting Cancer. Last year's organizers were surprised by participation and donations. They raised $65,000, more than $30,000 above their initial goal. This year a total of 51 teams (1,400 participants) exceeded the $80,000 goal. The College of Engineering "placed" third among all University teams in the amount of money it raised, with individuals in the college raising as much as $1,300 for the event.

Largely a pledged walkathon -- where teams were required to have someone walking on the track during the entire 16-hour event -- University participants employed a variety of creative fundraising activities, including selling apple pies and mums, a dunk tank, and a dance. The College of Engineering raised additional funds via its "Picture with Santa" booth.

All proceeds from the Relay for Life go directly to the American Cancer Society.
