Stockholm Water Prize Winner/Alum Discusses Wetlands

The 2004 Stockholm Water Prize winner William J. Mitsch, professor of natural resources, environmental science, and ecological engineering at The Ohio State University (OSU) and director of the OSU Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, presented a lecture in November entitled “Applying Science to Conservation and Restoration of the World’s Wetlands.”

A 1969 graduate of Notre Dame, Mitsch was
co-recipient
of the Stockholm Water Prize, the top award in the area of water resources, with Professor Sven Erik Jørgensen, professor of environmental chemistry at the Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Copenhagen. They were honored for “their theoretical and applied work on lake and wetland ecosystems, management of lake and wetland water quality, and lake, river and wetland conservation, restoration and usage.”
