Faculty Members Receive Computer Cluster Award

Professors Danny Z. Chen, Jesus A. Izaguirre, and Gregory R. Madey have received a NSF Major Research Instrumentation grant to build a 64-bit, 128-processor computer cluster. The cluster will be integrated into the University’s Bunch-o-Boxes Laboratory (B.O.B.), which is one of the fastest self-made supercomputing clusters in the world. Research simulation and modeling activities in B.O.B. span a broad range of disciplines and departments throughout the University. These engineers, who art part of Notre Dame’s Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Biocomplexity, are building their cluster to support a variety of projects in biocomplexity, which is the study of complex structures and behaviors associated with the interaction of molecules, cells, and organisms.
