Five Seniors Receive Steiner Award
Five seniors were selected as the 2005 recipients of
the Rev. Thomas A. Steiner, C.S.C., Award. The Steiner Award, named for
a former dean of engineering, honors students for their dedication to
their fields of study in engineering, outstanding leadership abilities,
and commitment to the values of the University. This year's honorees
are Daniel J. Richter, Los Gatos, Calif.; Eric
M. Saurer, Novi, Mich.; Russell A. Morton, San
Antonio, Texas; Daniel C. Tucker, Palos Heights, Ill.;
and Aaron M. Wenger, Mechanicsburg, Penn. Richter is
majoring in environmental sciences, Saurer in chemical engineering, and
Wenger in computer engineering. Morton and Tucker are electrical engineering
majors.
An 1899 civil engineering graduate of Notre
Dame, Rev. Thomas A. Steiner, C.S.C., was dean of the College of Engineering
from 1928 to 1938. He made a great impact on the course of the College
of Engineering, but he made an even greater impact on the lives of
his students. In 1948 former students of “Pops” Steiner established
the Steiner Prize in his memory.
