Doctoral Student
Wins ICHTS Webster Jee Award
In February 2005 at the 51st Meeting of the Orthopaedic
Research Society (ORS), Xiang Wang (Ph.D., AME ’05)
was presented with the International Chinese Hard Tissue Society’s
(ICHTS) Webster S.S. Jee Young Investigator Award. Wang was selected to receive
the travel award for his paper entitled “Shear-axial Interaction Effects
on Trabecular Bone Microdamage Accumulation,” which he presented at
the annual meeting. The award, one of four presented, is named for Jee, a
pioneer in bone anatomy, biology, and imaging.
Founded in 1994, the ICHTS is a non-profit professional
organization that promotes the exchange of ideas and collaborative research
among scientists in fields relating musculoskeletal tissue research.
Wang specializes in the damage susceptibility of trabecular bone and three-dimensional
imaging of microdamage in bone. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher
in the Tissue Mechanics Laboratory under the direction of Glen
L. Niebur,
laboratory director and assistant professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering.
